Johnston Dairy Farm
future home of
Newborn Milk Company

Johnston Dairy Farm is planning to bottle its own milk and dairy
products. We plan to offer whole milk, butter milk, cream, and butter.
Our prices will be very competitive to your local grocery store.  O
ur
products will be available through our farm store, Hunker Downs in
Madison, and other local markets.

The following information is about our farm and our production
methods in the hopes that you might be interested in using our dairy
products in your home.

We produce all natural milk:
•        Hormones- No added hormones. We never use rBST or any
other growth hormones. We feel the cows produce all of the
hormones that they were intended to.
•        Antibiotics- We also only use antibiotics in cases where the
cow's life is in danger. Then the milk from that cow is dumped until no
trace of the antibiotic can be found in the milk. We test the milk from
any treated cow with a test that can detect antibiotics down to 10
parts per billion.  Only after the milk passes that test, do we put that
milk back into the tank.
•        Feed- Cows were designed to eat grass. We let them. We let
our cows graze as much as possible and in times of drought or tight
forage supplies we supplement with Rye grass silage. We have a
nutritionist, Holly T. Ballantine, PhD., that comes out to our farm once
a month and samples our forages and formulates a grain mix that
complements the forages to make sure their diet is balanced. She
balances for 43 different nutrients in their diet. How many of us can
say we have a personal nutritionist?
•        Cow comfort- Our cows live in the pasture except for one and a
half hours each morning and night when they are being milked. Just
as they were designed to eat grass, they were not designed to live in
a confined environment 24 hours a day.

We invite you to come out to our farm and see how our beautiful girls
live and work. We think you will be surprised to learn how they live
and what is involved in producing milk.
