Bessie Sue is
waiting ...
We are proud to announce our
winner in East Newton's "Kiss the
Cow" contest sponsored by
Johnston Dairy Farm.

All proceeds benefit East Newton PTO.
A Day in the Life of
Bessie Sue Johnston

Bessie Sue is milked by Mr.
Russell twice a day.  The first
milking is at 8:30 A.M.  After
being milked she goes into the
feedlot to eat.  She eats a
mixture of silage (grasses),
cotton seeds, grounded corn,
cotton seed hulls, citrus pulp,
soy bean meal, vitamins, and
minerals.  YUM!  When she's
finished eating she goes out to
the pasture to graze and lounge
around with her friends.  We
milk about 100 cows so she has
plenty of friends to visit with
everyday.  The next milking time
is 7:00 P.M.  Once again Bessie
Sue is treated to an all you can
eat buffet.  After all, it takes
38,000 calories per day to
produce 100 pounds of milk.
She must eat 90 pounds of feed
per day to make 100 pounds of
milk and maintain a healthy
weight.  Finally, Bessie Sue
heads back out to the pasture to
rest and sleep.   Although she'll
only sleep for about 1 to 1 and a
half hours.  I wonder what kind
of late night mischief she gets
into...
No Cow Tipping
Cows sleep lying down!
The lucky winner is ...

Mrs. Mary Anne Smith

Thank you to all of the teachers, students, and
parents that supported the contest!
Products from Johnston
Dairy Farm

On our farm we produce milk
which can be made into many dairy
products such as sour cream, ice
cream, butter, and cream.  Another
major product of our farm is wheat.
 The pictures below show Mr.
Russell combining the wheat and
then transferring the wheat with
an auger to an eighteen-wheeler.
When the wheat leaves our farm it
goes to a processor in Macon to
be made into bread or other
products.
Alas, Mrs. Nicholson will have to
visit Johnston Dairy Farm to get
a kiss from Bessie Sue.
Bessie Sue says that she is ready to give Mrs. Smith a
big, wet smacker!!!

Mr. Russell will bring Bessie Sue to East Newton to
collect her kiss after Pizza Bingo on March 9th.
